A Washington-based Sri Lankan non-governmental organisation on Monday claimed the US Pacific Command (PACOM) is planning to lead an evacuation of nearly 200,000 Tamil civilians trapped in the war-torn northern region of the country.

Voice of Tigers, the official radio of the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam on Sunday said Sri Lankan armed forces have killed 2,018 Tamil civilians in January and February in Vanni and that 700 of the victims were children. The VoT has been airing a program, "Bridging the beloved" (Uravup Paalam), where civilians have been providing details of their missing family members and whereabouts of the remaining members in the hope of locating their missed ones.

The medical staffs are functioning in a very tiring condition, without adequate infrastructure to house the hospital and treating the patients with bare minimum drugs. Mullathivu hospital shifted to many places and it is now functioning in Maath’laan. This is the only hospital functioning in Vanni, in LTTE controlled area.

Kollathoor Mani, Leader of Periyar Dravida Kazhakam was arrested today around 7 a.m. by Dindukal Police. Police has filed case against him for speaking against national unity at the PDK’s public rally conducted on February 28th.
