An unidentified gunman has shot dead the principal of the Baharatheepuram Maha Vidyalaya in Vavuniya Saturday evening.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said that the principal, identified as Ramesh Khanna and another person were shot dead while they were traveling on a motorbike.

The gunman also carried off the motorbike belonging to the assassinated principal.

A motive for the murder is not known yet, SSP Gunasekara added. Vavuniya police are conducting further investigations.
