Tamil nationalist leader P Nedumaran, welcoming the AIADMK chief Jayalalitha's call for separate Eelam has said "Politicians have been supporting the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka and backing the demand for a separate homeland Eelam for our nationality for long. Jayalalitha's announcement is a welcome addition."
"Our Tamil brethren's sufferings since 1949 by successive Sinhalese chauvinist governments are well documented. Politicians' in India have backed the cause from time to time. Regardless of what is said here, the fight for a separate homeland is bound to see victory because of the never-say-die spirit of the Tamil fighters," Nedumaran has told IANS, India.
PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss welcoming the announcement, said: "At last there is a realistic assessment of the needs of the Tamils in Eelam and their sufferings."
In another incident today PMK Leader S Ramadoss has said the LTTE Leader Prabhakaran is "not a terrorist" and LTTE is a "liberation organisation," Prabhakaran is the leader of the "liberation movement" fighting for the cause of Tamils in Sri Lanka like former South African President Nelson Mandela and late PLO chief Yasser Arafat.
Even Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, when he started the Indian National Army, was described as a "terrorist" by the then British empire, he said.
"Likewise, Prabhakaran, who is fighting for the liberation of 50 million Sri Lankan Tamils, is not a terrorist," said Ramadoss.
He welcomed AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa's statement that Tamil Eelam was the only solution to end the decades-long ethnic strife in the island nation.
