SL Defence Secretary rejects ceasefire

SL Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa rejects the ceasefire announcement by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Early today, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) announced an unilateral ceasefire and said they cease all offensive military operations with immediate effect. They said they have announced the unilateral ceasefire in the face of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and in response to the calls made by the UN, EU, the governments of the USA, India and others.

But the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary was quick to reject it and said it as "a joke" and said there is no need of a ceasefire. The rebels must either surrender or be destroyed, "that is it" he told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Meanwhile in another interview to NDTV on Saturday Sri Lanka Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has told that the LTTE problem was an internal affair of the country, and that there was no reason why a rebel group should surrender its arms to a third party.

“They (the LTTE) were fighting with us. They were killing our citizens. How can we hand them over to a third party? They (the US State Department) should be ashamed of their request."

“If anybody tells me that, I will tell them to mind their own business. This is completely an internal issue. We will deal with the terrorists."

"We have suffered, not the USA or UK. Our people suffered, We will take action."

"We will not hand them over to anybody. We will not allow anyone to interfere,” the Defence Secretary has said.

USA - Thank you for your efforts in saving the innocent Tamil civilians. SLGovt is run by a bunch of crooks. They are arrogant, stubborn, heartless and don't know what they are doing. One day they will pay the price for all the crimes that they are committing.

Gothabaya ........ - we don't need to describe this man...the whole world knows this thug now.

USA - all what you need to do is to take immediate action against this mass murderer along with Fonseka. They should not have the privilege to hold US citizenship.
