Latest Report [Apr27Eve]: Govt. order flouted; Elderly facing famine death

E-mail Print PDF

[Video Attached] The Sri Lankan Air Force flouting the government order continued to strike the civilian areas in Mullivaikkal South. Two sorties were reported in the afternoon.

Little lull in the artillery attack recommenced again in the afternoon. Sri Lankan Army defying the government assurance given in the morning started attacking Mullivaikkal North area in the afternoon. MBRL rockets and artillery shells were fired in to the civilian settlements in Mullivaikkal North area.

By evening Sri Lankan Army intensified its offensive, heavy firing and shelling on the Mullivaikkal area started and it was continuing when we spoke to Tamil National Reporter at 7.30 also. He reported that dozens have died in the attack.

139 injured civilians were admitted to Mullivaikkal hospital in the morning and 19 died after admission. Many are not taken to the hospital. The casualties in the whole day offensive exceeds 500 and close to 100 feared dead.

Meanwhile food scarcity is reaching a critical level, the food ship did not reach today also. For the last 26 days no food was supplied to that area. The elders are the main victims of the food scarcity. Many elders have complained to Tamil National Reporter that they did not have food for 3, 4 days and there is an increased possibility of starvation deaths soon.

ALL OUT ATTACK ON ‘SAFE ZONE’ - HEAVY WEAPON USAGE CONTINUES DESPITE

At 3:45 am, 27 April 2009 the Sri Lanka Armed Forces commenced their attack on the so called ‘safe zone’ with heavy land based artillery shelling followed by ariel bombardment and shelling from off-shore ships.

The SL Armed Forces continue to shell and bomb the civilians in the so-called ‘safe zone’ / ‘no fire zone’ in contradiction of statements to the international media by the Government of Sri Lanka on 27 April 2009 (today) that they would no longer use ariel bombardment or heavy artillery.

The fact of the matter is that government spokespersons have been denying that they were using these weapons for the past one month. How is it that they are stopping the usage of weapons that they had previously stated there were not using anyway?

So far today there are reports of 500 civilian casualties with approximately 100 of those having died or are dying due to a lack of treatment. The true numbers are likely to be higher, but due to the continuous shelling from the direction of Puthukudiyiruppu, Ianaipalai and Oddusuddan and aerial bombardment by the K-FIR jets, which re-started at 15.00 - 16.00, on two of the sorties “delay bombs” were dropped in the Rattai Vaikal area, it is difficult for TRO volunteers and medical staff to collect the injured and dying.

The shells are still raining down on us as these words are being written in a bunker in the so called ‘safe zone’. The government is keeping the eyes of the world off of the genocide they are committing here. Will it be too late for the Tamil civilians when the world finally awakes to the atrocity that they allowed the Government of Sri Lanka to commit in their “war on terror” while they international community willfully looked the other way. Is this President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton’s Rwanda or Srebrenica?

We, the civilians in the ‘safe zone, implore the international community and the Tamil Diaspora to push the government of Sri Lanka to enter into a cease fire. The government has silenced our voice, we have no voice, you must be our voice.

International commitees just calling for a ceasefire and showing the concern on this critical matter is just not enough. An action is required immediately. So many lives have alreay been destroyed and it is a surprise to my knowledge to know that higher authorities are not able to take an ACTION to this genocide in the past 4 - 5 months. This matter has been dragging for months and as a result we have seen death, starvation and mental aggrevation among those trapped in this genocidal war.

AN IMMEDIATE ACTION IS REQUIRED BY THE UN OR ANY OF THE HIGHER AUTHORITY TO STOP THIS AT ONCE.

it's impossible to understand how humans could be so inhuman. May all those who allowed so much suffering be punished by God justice.

EU, UN, USA, CANADA, HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS AMNESTY, AID GROUPS ,UNHCR and others who are suppose to safe guard humans and safe guard the civilisations are unable to do any thing except send reports after reports and media releases . All these powerful organisations could not stop this genocide ? WHY because WE ARE TAMILS ? This act is inhuman. Animals has more rights in this world than Tamils in Sri Lanka.
